Apesar do meu Nery ser o tio Nery, que meu já era, na verdade, tio-avô. A imagem dele caminhando sem pressa, como quem tem todo o tempo do mundo, pelas calçadas quebradas do bairro do Rosário, com uma boina na cabeça e um livro debaixo do braço, é tão vívida agora quanto há 12 anos atrás."

"I thought a lot about whether I should tell this story. I didn't know, and I'm still not sure, if I should be the one to tell it. This is someone else's story, and many others', and my little piece of it is very small. I realize this now, taking a step back and seeing the picture I put together with the pieces that weren't mine. This figure still has so many pieces missing, pieces that have gone with the people who carried them.
But, after all, that's why I decided that I should be the one to write about Nery, because I'm here, now, looking for the pieces of his life before more of them are lost. Even though my Nery was Uncle Nery, who was actually my great-uncle. The image of him walking leisurely, as if he had all the time in the world, along the broken sidewalks of the Rosário neighborhood, with a beret on his head and a book under his arm, is as vivid now as it was 12 years ago."
Este livro conta a história de Nery, pesquisador, arquiteto, professor e apaixonado por cerâmica. O artista nasceu e passou a maior parte de sua vida em Santa Maria, cidade gaúcha onde era professor no curso de Artes Visuais desde a criação do Centro de Artes da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria. Nery pesquisou cerâmica extensivamente durante seu tempo na academia, experimentando argilas e materiais locais e incorporando-os em suas obras.
A vida pessoal turbulenta e a natureza privada de Nery impediram-no de divulgar seu trabalho artístico e, após a sua morte em 2014, este livro revisita a sua produção pela primeira vez. Através de entrevistas com alunos, colegas e familiares, resgata mais de 50 obras num catálogo que acompanha uma biografia e textos de convidados. O projeto gráfico editorial procurou refletir a vivacidade e a multiplicidade do artista por meio de layouts fluidos, ilustrados com fotografias, desenhos e gravuras recuperados durante a pesquisa.

This book tells the story of Nery, a researcher, architect, teacher and passionate ceramicist. The artist was born and spent most of his life in Santa Maria, a city in the state of Rio Grande do Sul where he was a professor for Visual Arts since the creation of the Arts Center at the Federal University of Santa Maria. Nery researched ceramics extensively during his time at the academy, experimenting with local clays and materials, incorporating them into his pieces.
Nery's turbulent personal life and private nature prevented him from publicizing his artistic work and, following his death in 2014, this book revisits his production for the first time. Through interviews with students, colleagues and family members, it brings together more than 50 works in a catalog that accompanies a biography and guest texts. The editorial graphic design sought to reflect the artist's vivacity and multiplicity through fluid layouts, illustrated with photographs, drawings and prints recovered during the research.
